This typically Swartland homestead was built in 1911 and has served as the village’s police station and a bicycle shop in its time. It is situated right next to the village square. With thick walls, high ceilings and original Oregon pine floors in some rooms, it was carefully restored in 2002 and named after the fortress-like mountain that stands guard over the Valley. Kasteelberg Country Inn warmly captures the essence of a bygone era.
Throughout your visit, the atmosphere that you will experience is one of genuine homeliness. With comfortable accommodation, a bistro with superb cuisine and fireplaces for chilly winter nights, a serene garden with a pool for hot summer days and welcoming service under personal management of Allan Barnard and Julien Debray.
Comfortable, functional double rooms: all en-suite and all air-conditioned. All individually furnished to reflect the homeliness of Kasteelberg. All exude a special charm that is meant to convey a simple message: “this is your home too”.
The upstairs bedrooms are cozy loft rooms and require climbing a flight of stairs. One of these rooms is the most spacious at the Inn and comes with a shower over the outsize bath, a sleeper couch and two armchairs. The other two rooms on the 1st floor have showers only.
Ground floor bedrooms are equipped with either bath and separate shower or shower only. One of the ground floor bedrooms has a king-size, extra-length double bed (pictured above) as well as a single bed. One room has two three-quarter beds (pushed together).
Please note: at the insistence of the vast majority of our guests over the years, THERE ARE NO TV’S in our rooms. Sporting events can be viewed on our flat screen TV in the outdoor Stone Pub in the summer or one of the many pubs in the area.
We provide free wi-fi for our guests.
We have tried our best to create the opposite of a sterile, cookie-cutter hotel with 24 hr room service, loud, flat-screen TV’s, fake smiles and chummy welcome letters. We like to give our guests space to do their own thing, yet when help or information is needed, we take genuine pleasure in providing it.
